The Immune System ft. the Coronavirus There’s been a lot of talk about the Coronavirus  (aka. Covid19)  and germs and how to stay healthy in the middle of it all.
As someone who has a compromised immune system, I thought I could add a different perspective to this whole situation. Before we start I’d like it to be known that this post is in no way meant to add to the hysteria, the purpose is merely to inform and spread awareness in these uncertain times.
Panicking is the worst thing to do in these situations, so staying calm and keeping a cool head is priority number #1! This allows us to think clearly about what needs to be done. Now in most situations if you have a healthy immune system you should be fine, just  continue  to practice  good hygiene . The people who are most at risk ...

Disclaimer: Haru is not a real doctor, please consult your physicians with any questions. Haru encourages everyone to do their own research and ask questions. Hey! It's Rosie again,     The month of November is Crohn’s and Colitis awareness month. I don’t have Colitis, but when I was 14 I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease so I thought I could share my experiences and some things that I’ve learnt along the way.  Let’s dive right in shall we, What is Crohn’s disease?     Crohn’s is classified under the umbrella term Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). As the name would suggest this disease causes inflammation in various areas of the digestive tract; anywhere from the mouth to the anus. Inflammation in the Gastrointestinal tract can cause a variety of symptoms that we will go over in just a second. Crohn’s disease can affect people of any age, though it is most likely to presents itself between the ages of 20-29. However, in 1/6 of people, it will...

Hey everyone! It’s Rosie again (๑>◡<๑) I just wanted to welcome you all to our very first H.A.R.U post, which will be a part of a bigger segment known as the Health and Recovery Unit. This segment was named after our invisible illnesses mascot Haru; if you’d like to learn more about him and how he came to be you can click here . Now on to the main event - I t’s fall here in Canada, the leaves are changing colours, the days are getting shorter, the temperature is dropping, and I’m sure many arthritis sufferers can feel it in their bones… In honour of World Arthritis Day (October 12 th ) I wanted to talk about what arthritis is, my experience with it, and the tricks I’ve picked up along the way. So let’s get started! First of all, what is Arthritis? Arthritis is sort of an umbrella term used to describe an inflammation of the joint; and it can affect one or more joints throughout the body. What exactly is a joint? A joint is a place where two or more bones meet; and s...

Happy Hug Day Everyone!

Image
Happy Hug Day Everyone! “ National Hug Holiday Day was created by the “Hugs for Health Foundation” for the belief that hugs, friendship and support are vital components to an overall health plan. Hugs promote a more positive outlook and enhance the quality of ones life.”  So make someone’s day and spread the love 😊 (Unless you’re uncomfortable with physical contact, then good vibes work too.) Behind the Comic : A while ago we were rewatching the Alien franchise when we came across a moment in the film that caused a reaction that we’re pretty sure the filmmakers probably had not intended and that was laughter. the scene we’re talking about is in the first Alien movie (1979) when the character Dallas is in the ships vents looking for the alien and finds it. When we saw this scene of the alien with its arms outstretched and opened wide all we could think was “Somebody just needs a hug”, and this is what inspired us for today’s comic. ~ Stay Obsessed

Hey Guys!
Rosie here! Just wanted to update everyone on what we’ve been up to since we haven’t been too active online (my bad). For those who don’t know I have been diagnosed with a list of Chronic Illnesses, this means there is no cure and I will have to fight and manage my illnesses for my whole life. At the age of 16 I was diagnosed with Behcet’s disease, Chron’s disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis and since then my list has grown to include; Gastroparesis (stomach 80% paralyzed), Raynaud’s Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Scleritis (causing partial blindness), Sinus Tachycardia, and Major Depressive Disorder. Behcet’s is very rare in young people, in women, and in people who live in North America, but I have great odds…or bad odds? Depends on how you look at it I guess…😅 So Behcet’s is an auto immune disorder where your immune system attacks your body; in this case specifically small, medium, and large blood vessels as well as veins and capillaries. As...
