MaRoManias

It’s that time of year again, where everyone is filled with a mixture of excitement and dread… it’s back to school time! Well not for us, but for some of you. Glad those days are behind us.     There is always that younger sibling though who can’t bear to be separated from their older sibling, thinking it to be unfair that they get to go to school and make new friends. Not yet realizing just how lucky they are that they get to stay at home. If anyone is wondering what Rosie was like as a child they have to look no further than at Mei from “My Neighbour Totoro” by Studio Ghibli. It’s actually what this comic was inspired by. Whenever we watch it it’s almost like seeing a flashback of our younger days, especially Rosie’s bobble-head and big mouth, which is why she got the nickname Chibi early on 😂     Stay Obsessed ~

Some people might be reading this and thinking “Otakuthon happened in August, why are you guys only writing about it in September?” Like we mentioned in a previous post we’ve been dealing with some health issues and so we are a little behind, but we still wanted to share our 2017 Otakuthon experience, so we hope you guys will forgive our tardiness.       Otakuthon which takes place in Montreal, is a convention for those interested in Japanese Pop-Culture. So basically for those who like anime, manga, cosplay, video games, etc, this is the convention for you. There are always tons of great artists and cosplayers who turn up. You can go on Otakuthon’s official website to see all their updates and stay posted about who is on their guest list, which events and panels they’re hosting, and just overall news. You can get great deals if you pre-register and buy your tickets online during the first early bird round. We talk more about Otakuthon ...

Let the sculpting commence! A while ago we saw an article on OtakuUSA’s website about a sand sculpture of Attack on Titan by Toshihiko Hosaka. If you’re curious to see how he did it you can watch the time lapse video here on YouTube. This got us inspired. Other than some pretty feeble sand castles at the beach when we were younger, we’ve never really made sand sculptures before. I had received some Kinetic Sand boxes a while back and thought why not open them and give it a shot, and while we’re at it let’s make it interesting, CHALLENGE TIME!!         Rules: You have one box of Kinetic Sand to render a movie character of your choice and 1 hour to complete it. We each got our work spaces ready and started the challenge. Mandy chose to sculpt Totoro, the forest spirit from my personal favourite Studio Ghibli movie “My Neighbour Totoro”. I chose to use the Lord of Sith, the Dark Father Himself, the Magnificent Darth Vader from the cult clas...
