Misty Cosplay

Hey Guys! It’s
Rosie here, and I just wanted to share some of my cosplay journey.
In Montreal we have an annual convention for
anime called Otakuthon. I had a few friends who were going and I decided to tag along, but there was no way I’d show up without a costume. Now keeping in
mind I was very new to this, had about one month, and I’m also a perfectionist,
it was hard to pick a character I could get done in time; after much
deliberating I chose Misty from Pokemon!
Hold up! I know what you may think, Misty is overdone at
conventions and usually isn’t a cosplay with much effort. However, I grew up
loving Misty and really wanted to do her character justice. Once I had my
character chosen it was time to get to work. First I had to gather as many
reference photos as I could, since I really wanted to do well on details and
impress my fellow cosplayers despite the low budget costume design. These are
some details on what I used; I bought an orange shoulder length wig from a shop
in Montreal called Imagine Le Fun, I bought some fabrics, fabric finishing, and
a pair of red fabric shoes. I was able to style the wig and used a blue hair elastic
to tie off her side ponytail, making sure it was the same colour used in the
anime. I had my grandmother help me sew together a red draw string bag and a
yellow crop tank top. I used yellow fabric strips to sew on the red shoes; I definitely
recommend using a thimble to protect your fingers since the fabric is really
though to sew through. I got green contact lenses to match misty, and I found
denim shorts and red suspenders in my closet.
I also went into my anime
collection merch to get my pokeballs, and got a Psyduck and Togepi plushy to
help complete my look.
There was ONE finale thing I needed to craft
and that was a PokeDex! Yes that’s right, no Poketrainer is complete without
it. I bought a cheap red iPhone flip case and used some paper and glue to
transform it into a PokeDex complete with the download of the PokeDex App on my
phone.
I was ready to hit the convention floor and talk to people about all our
common interests. I had a blast and got so many compliments on the realism and
quality of my cosplay. It was definitely a great experience and I encourage
everyone to try new things!
Who knows you just might get obsessed too!
