Gakuen Alice - Anime Review

Hey Everyone!

It’s September again, which means it’s back to school time! We can’t pretend this year will be normal or that it won’t have its extra challenges… which is why we thought that Gakuen Alice would be the perfect anime to showcase this month. It’s cute and fun, with a current of sinister running underneath it.

Follow Mikan Sakura as she starts a new school year at the prestigious Alice Academy; a government-funded school for those who possess Alices. What are Alices you ask? Alices are special abilities such as flying, mind-reading, elemental manipulation, you know all those things we mere muggles can only dream of.

Only just discovering what Alices are and that she in fact has one, Alice Academy is a magical place for the country bumpkin Mikan. And best of all she gets to experience it all with her best friend Hotaru who is also attending the academy.

Gakuen Alice is a heartwarming anime about the bonds of friendship, that is filled with some good old fashioned slapstick comedy. But it's not all fun and games as Mikan soon discovers, there’s a darkness lurking beneath the fancy veneer the school presents the world. There are rumours that the school has a secret black-ops unit made up of students that get sent out on dangerous assignments in order to secure power and funding for the Academy. And what happened 10 years ago during the student rebellion that has the school so on edge towards Mikan and her Alice?

Curious? You’ll just have to watch the anime to find out more 😜 - Which luckily for all of us is currently streaming over on Crunchyroll. Now Gakuen Alice does have an English dub by Animax, but it is notoriously difficult to come by. We first saw Gakuen Alice in its original Japanese with English subtitles, and it was great! So don’t let that stop you.

Now if you could have any ability in the world what would it be? Leave your answers in the comments below.

That’s it for now,

~ Stay Obsessed
